Wickersley Community Centre Association
The project is to install energy efficient equipment; reducing running costs to allow the users to remain viable. WCCA is managed by 8 volunteers, many groups using the centre are run by volunteers, are not for profit or charities. The centre houses many different community groups which meet the needs of people from all walks of life in the area.
- To reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of renewable and low energy items to the wider community. WCCA wish to lead from the front in-terms of keeping the building environmentally friendly as well as community friendly.
- Maintain low room hire rates, encouraging groups to use the building. Providing an inclusive service to a wide audience; allowing the centre to be for the use of the wider public & groups that are in need & that are an essential lifeline for people.
- To allow for further consideration and investment in environmentally friendly items for the building, reducing carbon emissions, reducing on-going costs and being a leader in the community for environmentally friendly solutions.
How we will achieve our goals
WCCA runs a thriftily managed budget, as the centre gets older the reserve monies will be required to carry out necessary maintenance in the building. A Community Award would allow the WCCA to implement renewable energy to reduce costs, reduce environmental impact and have sustainability for the building and groups that use it.
Where the money will go
WCCA houses 26 regular multi-cultural community groups together with celebrations, charity events & local library; the building caters for thousands of people weekly from age 0 to 101! The groups in the centre cover a vast array of needs. From Wing for the elderly, Dodgers for the disabled to Youngstars for young people and a community playgroup.
