Visions of Ability by CEDA
At CEDA, we encourage disabled people to become visible and valuable member of society. Through this project, disabled members will explore the history of disability within Devon over the last 100 years. We will look at key areas of development and changes in society which have moved towards greater equality and independence.
- Participants will learn valuable new skills in a range of areas including interviewing, researching and collating information along with increased confidence, social skills and making new friends
- The project will contribute to the communities awareness of disability, breaking down barriers, promoting the abilities of disabled people and encouraging others to see the potential in disabled people
- Creation of an e-book detailing the history of disability in Devon, identifying the disability organisations and their impact as well as recording valuable memories and experiences of disabled people of all ages
How we will achieve our goals
The award will allow us to get out and about in our community to speak to disability organisations, historic places of interest, shops and businesses, use newspaper archives and speak to disabled people to record their memories and experiences. We will also deliver sessions in our activity hub, using specialist accessible IT equipment.
Where the money will go
We will share our findings with the wider community through social media and the e-book, celebrating the differences in society today, contributing to the communities awareness of disability, breaking down barriers, promoting the abilities of disabled people and encouraging others to see the potential in disabled people.
