Thursley Village Hall Roof and Heating Renewal
The project is to improve the comfort level of this old building for community users, particularly the elderly and young. The village is rural and without transport links or facilities. The hall is a vital central hub. Insulation, retiling, heaters and ceiling fans will make it more environmentally sound and decrease current high energy costs.
- Community user comfort. Re-tiling, insulation, renewal of heaters and introduction of ceiling fans will improve the warmth of the hall for all users increasing the utilisation especially in winter when the community is more isolated due to weather.
- Reduce environmental impact. The vaulted, uninsulated ceiling currently leads to a large loss of heat which will be prevented with retiling and insulation. New efficient heaters and ceiling fans will regulate the warmth more effectively.
- Improve the long term sustainability of the hall. The improvement of the warmth of the building will encourage greater community use. The decrease in running costs will help to keep the hall as a viable facility for current and future generations.
How we will achieve our goals
We have already been fundraising by holding community events and this together with current funds will provide the final means to start work in the Autumn. We already have quotes for the works and the community award will enable us to begin.
Where the money will go
The village is made up of a distribution of ages but it is especially the elderly and young who are affected by the cold. This is evident with the current heating system. Increase in warmth will mean that not only will it be more attractive to these particular users but may stimulate other activities where cold is currently a deterrent e.g. yoga.
