THE LEARNING BUS
We will convert an old double decker bus into an inspiring learning space for the pupils of St Aidan’s primary school. The school is drastically short of space so The Learning Bus will benefit all students, but will also offer children with special learning needs some privacy for their one-to-one sessions.
- PROVIDING POWER: The Learning Bus will need to be powered by the school's nursery building located next door to the playground. Experienced electricians will be required to oversee this, install power sockets and also convert the existing lighting.
- ADAPTING/MODIFYING THE INTERIOR: The bus will have three different intervention spaces for learning. We will need to fund a carpenter, building materials and fabrics to help create these areas so that they are suitable for purpose.
- ORGANISATION & RESOURCES: As this is a learning space it is essential that it is comfortable and functional. The remains of our budget will be used to furnish the bus, provide storage and stock the space with new IT equipment and other learning aids.
How we will achieve our goals
We have already procured a bus for this project. The Community Award will allow us to renovate, adapt and modernise this vehicle to become a unique and exciting learning space. It will also allow us to provide new and state-of-the-art learning resources to aid teaching, something that existing budget cuts have completely ruled out.
Where the money will go
St Aidan’s is an Ofsted outstanding school bursting at the seams. It’s not unusual to find teaching sessions being held in corridors. This project will offer teachers a flexible learning space, privacy for children who have additional needs and an exciting and unique space for all members of the school to learn in. It will have a radical impact.
