The Ear Foundation: refurbishing our family house for those with hearing loss
Our family house was opened in 1993, and is used by approximately 300 families of deaf children each year, who stay there and visit to learn how to use hearing technology at home to communicate. We now urgently need to refurbish the bathroom and toilet facilities; our families deserve accommodation facilities which are up to date and don’t leak!
- We will refurbish the bathroom and shower room and toilets to provide up to date facilities, for families of deaf children and young people using our accommodation.
- We will provide shower and bathroom facilities suitable for those with other disabilities.
- We will make our house comfortable for our families who stay there, so that they can relax with their deaf children and young people, as they learn to use their hearing technology in a homely environment.
How we will achieve our goals
A Community Award of £5,000 would enable us to renew the bathroom, shower room and toilets, and provide paint for our volunteers to complete the project. Estimate of £10,320 has been received for this work, and we have already raised £5,000.
Where the money will go
Deafness in one member of the family affects the whole family, and the community who use our Family House share the common challenge of communication in everyday life. To update our house where they stay and visit, where they can try out hearing technologies, and learn to listen and communicate in a homelike environment would be wonderful for them.
