Tenbury Community Pool - Disabled changing rooms
Disabled changing facilities are required at our community owned pool to allow access for all. Due to the age of the building, disabled user groups are unable to use our pool. Furthermore, the local schools that use the pool are unable to bring all of their pupils because some are disabled and cannot access the current changing facilities.
- Disabled people will be able to use our pool. We have an excellent reputation for teaching people how to swim, in a town on a river, this is a life skill that should be available to all.
- The local schools can bring all of their pupils without the disabled ones being excluded. In addition to this we can promote our disabled changing facilities to other specific user groups such as riding for the disabled etc.
- Part of this area is to also provide changing rooms for family use, because at present we do not have any family change facilities either. This creates problems when you have single parents that would like to bring older children swimming.
How we will achieve our goals
The community award will provide the necessary funding for this specific element of our larger refurbishment plans, however this is the most important and urgent requirement prior to getting our funds raised for the next phase to be completed.
Where the money will go
At present part of our disabled community cannot use our community pool and clearly in this modern day and age this is not acceptable. Our pool owns the lifting gear for disabled swimmers to access the pool which is currently used by OAPs. However, at present this is not used by any disabled swimmers because there is nowhere for them to change.
