TEENS+ is a full-time further education facility for post-school adults who have severe and complex learning difficulties who would have otherwise been excluded from further education. This is a unique education project providing people with an introduction to social enterprise, support into further education, employment and independent living.

Our goals:

  • Life skills learning opportunity for students; Completion of the garden will provide an immense sense of achievement. The students will have a working group and will be involved in all aspects of planning, delivery, creation and reviewing of project.
  • To create a welcoming outdoor space incorporating sensory experiences that can be enjoyed and utilised by the TEENS+ community and our partners. The space will harbour outdoor learning through activity areas and provide opportunities for progression.
  • Increase health and well-being; Use the project to encourage being outdoors, active and of healthy body and healthy mind. Use the space regularly and imaginatively so students can learn about being active through being outside, having fun and sharing

How we will achieve our goals

The community award would enable us to purchase the materials, resources and labour required to fulfil our hopes and aspirations for our outdoor space. It will also allow us to get the expertise required to create best use of space and ensure the resources we source are appropriate and suitable for learning opportunities, accessibility and safety.

Where the money will go

Provide a space to share, enjoy, use and harvest from; For TEENS+ students, families and Staff. Partners such as Children 1st befriending service and groups such as the over 50’s where we will encourage inter-generational interactions. Our neighbours will be invited to join with us in utilising and enjoying a ‘space for all’ during our open events.

Hi there, this is a great project for young adults with Autism/ communication difficulties. They really need to finish their garden area. This will be well used by students for various learning opportunities and growing of produce hopefully. Please vote for them as lots of young adults will benefit from this. Also members of the local community will be able to access it meaning the young adults will be more accepted into the local community. A very inclusive and worthwhile venture.
