Swansea Community Workshops

(City & County of Swansea)

The aims of the charity are to promote general well being, continuing education and healthy lifestyles for retired people and others, who are looking to use their time constructively and enjoyably. This is achieved by setting up a facility or “Shed” where the people can go to engage in creative, enjoyable activities and meet and chat with others

Our goals:

  • The addition of a shower will provide a facility that will ensure members, including those with disabilities, can leave the workshops clean.
  • The addition of an effective dust control system will result in a reduction of dust within the workshop and a safer environment for all members especially those with breathing issues.
  • A lathe will will be an additional activity that will attract people to the workshop and allow them to produce crafts and other items

How we will achieve our goals

The Award will improve the health advantages whilst people are attending the project and attract a greater number of members; it will make the Workshop more attractive to those with disabilities.

Where the money will go

We aim to attract people over 50 years, which equates to 90,100 or 37.3% of the population of the City & County of Swansea. In Swansea 38.0% of those aged 50-64 are not in work. Loneliness and depression amongst this age group is identified as an escalating social problem particularly amongst men.
