Therapy Groups for Preschoolers with Down Syndrome
Our therapy groups provide developmental therapy for babies 4-18 months, and speech and language therapy for preschoolers. The session includes support and information for parents and targets across the range of development including; communication, speech, receptive and expressive language, number, memory, reading, play and cognition.
- To provide monthly information to parents on the needs of children with Down syndrome and the support, services and checks they should be receiving.
- For the younger children in the group we will include activities for parents to carry out with their children throughout the month to support and promote development.
- For the older children we would provide therapy to meet targets across the range of development including; communication, speech, receptive and expressive language, number, memory, reading, play and cognition.
How we will achieve our goals
Funding for this project would ensure we are able to provide these important groups for six months for 18 children in our local area. This would pay for the specialist therapist, hall hire and informative reports.
Where the money will go
Children with Down Syndrome struggle with speech and language, and often support by the NHS is extremely limited. We provide these groups to ensure local families who need this therapy can access it, regardless of means. Improved social communication improves social inclusion, independence, sense of self worth and well being.
