St Peter’s Pre-School outside play and learning environment
Our village pre-school has always operated as a charity, run by a committee of volunteers. We are proud of what we have achieved but as we grow so does the demand on resources. We are applying for an award to revitalise our outside play area and toys for our little ones, who love nothing more than playing there whatever the weather.
- Landscape: The outside area is currently laid with concrete and so would really benefit from some soft landscaping. Raised planting areas would bring in some much needed greenery whilst also protecting the plants from enthusiastic little fingers.
- Learning: Some children prefer learning outdoors. A wooden grocery shop would encourage role play and counting; the numicons combine maths and play; and there are lots of science and gardening projects we could carry out outside in the raised beds.
- Fun: The playground at the moment is far from ideal but with new tractors; sand pit toys; and sensory equipment including stacking peddles and cylinders, it could become a haven for the children - somewhere they can learn, play and interact.
How we will achieve our goals
With the Community Award funding, we would be able to purchase much needed equipment and revamp the outdoor space. The impact, we believe, would be immediate. With better resources and a better design, the space will become an outside classroom where we can teach our children everything from how their food grows to how to count.
Where the money will go
Ardingly is a small and close knit village. The development of these children, our future decision makers, has a far reaching impact on our community. This project will give them everything from an appreciation of nature to a solid educational grounding before they head to our village primary school.
