Spectrum Community Arts
Spectrum Community Arts aims to provide top class performing arts day camps for children with disabilities during each school holiday. Each day will include 4 workshops; drama, dance, singing and arts & crafts with an informal sharing at the end of each day. These sessions will benefit the children with disabilities and their parents/carers.
- The award will allow Spectrum to hire professional facilitators with experience of working with this community group to ensure top level workshops alongside the development of social and communication skills and self-esteem.
- The award would allow a big advertising campaign. This would help raise awareness of the project to both families and volunteers, in turn enabling more people to benefit from this fantastic project.
- Having funding for this project would allow consistency throughout the next academic year. Children and families would have the security of Spectrum as an engaging, fun school holiday workshop to send their children to.
How we will achieve our goals
The community award would be able to fund; -Professional facilitators -Adults to support and help engage the children -Suitable venue hire i.e. wheelchair accessible and a space for a ‘sensory tent’ -Sensory props -Advertising -Admin staff Without these, the project wouldn’t be as successful and they wouldn’t be able to reach as many families.
Where the money will go
Spectrum Community Arts is for children with learning and physical disabilities and special needs. I’ve seen first-hand how it helps develop the children’s social and communication skills and helps build self-esteem. The day camps will give parents/carers the opportunity for the respite they deserve. I care for a 13 year old child with autism.
