Singing Group for people with Parkinson's

To support a social singing group – led by a professional teacher – for people with Parkinson’s, their friends, families and carers or anyone with a long-term condition. The sessions are great fun – lots of people find that singing makes them feel better. It also provides real benefits for people with voice impairments caused by their condition.

Our goals:

  • To offer singing classes to help boost confidence and improve quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and anyone with an enduring health condition.
  • To reach out to those in the local community with long-term health conditions and provide a supportive and inclusive social network.
  • To provide a space for people with specific health conditions, including Parkinson’s, to have a break from their routine, develop creativity and have fun.

How we will achieve our goals

It will enable the singing sessions to take place and provide stability to the sessions for the 14 month funding period.

Where the money will go

Voice impairments are common for people with Parkinson’s; voices can become monotone, have less variety in volume, have reduced vocal intensity and pitch, and become harsh & breathy. Singing can help with impairments & can improve wellbeing. The strong social aspect is really helpful for those who have feelings of stress, anxiety or depression.
