Saltford Primary School undercover learning area
Saltford school is a two form year group primary school. The EYFS leader, Samantha Honeybell and the other members of the team are really dedicated and are championing the importance of outside play/learning and the benefits for children. The classrooms need a covered area outside, under which they can learn and play.
- To allow reception children to do 50% of their learning outdoors. It is impractical for 4 and 5 year olds to change into wellies and splash suits and in the summer it is too hot.
- To protect school equipment from weather damage thus saving money long term. The PTA have recently given the reception classes £3000 of equipment and the sun and rain is starting to damage it.
- To particularly benefit children who find the classroom environment stressful and not conducive to learning. Noise levels are less and space is freely available which enables the children to learn through discovery.
How we will achieve our goals
A community award would totally fund this project which has been wanted for many years. Unfortunately, other areas of the school have taken priority for fundraising (such as the school pool) and there has been no money left in the budget to pay for a shelter to be built.
Where the money will go
The money will be used for the undercover area and also to create a large scale sandpit with a fixed cover. This will benefit all children in the reception classes and moving forward.
