To start programme of West Pier themed talks & events to encourage the public to engage in pier’s heritage

Our goals:

  • To create a collection of film loops explaining through archive film and photographic material the story of the pier. To engage a professional team to help make a permanent record of the history of the finest pier ever built.
  • To expand schools education programme in order to reach a wider range of schools and colleges. A grant would enable the Trust to expand its marketing to reach schools and buy teaching materials for sessions.
  • To start a programme of West Pier themed talks and events to encourage the public to engage actively in the pier’s heritage. This would include a series of illustrated talks, for example about the pier’s history, its engineering and design.

How we will achieve our goals

As explained above, the award would create an historic film archive of the West Pier, help to expand a schools education programme and to allow the public to attend regular talks and events at the new West Pier Centre

Where the money will go

The film archive will be a permanent historic record of the West Pier dating back to the beginning of photography and moving film. The schools education programme would allow us to reach school age children to pass on the amazing history of the West Pier and; The West Pier Centre will be able to hold regular adult events and talks with no charge.

This is a great project which will provide an historical record accessible to all. It will re-energise this end of the sea front at Brighton and provide additional visitor attraction and educational opportunities.
