Providing a new accessible kitchen for the local community at Dunsden Village Hall

(Oxfordshire)

AIM: 1. Accessibility – currently no wheelchair access to kitchen & hardware not easily usable. 2. Increase capacity for catering so can use for local community weddings, christenings etc; currently equipment, size and storage is inadequate, though we get requests to host. Benefits all community including Kindergarten.

Our goals:

  • Ensure the hall is accessible as a community hall for all members of the community. Currently there is no wheelchair access in the kitchen, there is limited use for those with other mobility issues and the handles, doors etc. do not have easy use.
  • Offer a resource to meet all the community's needs - people want a venue for affordable weddings and other events and the current kitchen facilities mean in-house catering is not always possible due to size and equips. We want to expand our offering.
  • Improve facilities for existing users - children's parties, the kindergarten that uses the hall in term time, small company training events, weekly classes, the over 60s club and yoga retreats. The kindergarten cannot use the existing kitchen (size).

How we will achieve our goals

The Award of £25k would pay for the entire project as outlined previously – labour, supply of all materials and realise the aims outlined above.

Where the money will go

Massively! Affordable venue catering for local families’ needs: christenings, wakes, weddings, family parties. Enhance kindergarten’s experience of baking. Allow us to cater for our community events (often buy takeaway – so would save money for the hall (reg charity). Allow all users to get involved in the kitchen. New servery gives link to the hall.

Good luck with your project. In Church Eaton Staffordshire we are ahead of you and over the last 4 years have raised £140k for major updating of an 1890’s building. More than half has come from grant funding but the rest by much much hard work! Our Village Institute is transformed – see website.

Thank you so much for your support! Our Village Halls need all the help they can get.

Well done with your Village Institute – it looks great. The team here have also been working very hard fund-raising over the last few years too; we really hope to be able to fund the improvements and this award would mean so very much to the hall. As I’m sure you know – these beautiful old halls take a lot of upkeep and need support to bring them up to 21st century standards for the whole community to use.

Please do spread the word about our project and thanks again for your support!

Fingers crossed for the Dunsden Village Hall this is such a vital need for all South Oxfordshire to meet local needs. The number of people who stand to benefit will be so grateful for this help in order to help others in our community. Thank you Tim Coulson MBE
