Prospex

(London)

Prospex  is a passionate grass roots youth charity that believes in unlocking the potential in young people. We focus our work in some of the most deprived estates in Islington, London, where young people are at risk of falling into a lifestyle of knife crime, gangs, drugs and violence.

We would like funding from One Family to empower girls to develop life skills that will enable them to make positive decisions about their future. We do this through our Girls Hub activities, which offer both practical and emotional support.

Our goals:

  • Promote Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds in girls and young women: Nutrition & Diet; Mental Health & Wellbeing; Self Image & Body Confidence; Health & Fitness; Social Influences and Healthy Relationships.
  • Provide girls with the opportunity to participate in various creative and fun activities which will help them to reflect on themselves and deal with the daily challenges they face such as internet bullying and difficulties at school.
  • Develop leadership skills by enabling girls to steer sessions and providing motivational role models. For example we explore the issue of sexual exploitation of girls in gang initiation.

How we will achieve our goals

We create opportunities for the teenage girl’s to develop confidence, leadership, and practical life skills, along with motivational advice to empower them to make better informed life decisions. Weekly sessions are based on a Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds theme and encourage girls and young women to have fun and at the same time explore issues of safety, health and well being, self- confidence and to learn new skills.
