Play Area Renovation Gladstone Village Hall

(Cheshire)

Save our Play Area! The Council has handed over the aging Village Play Area to the community to run and maintain. Safety inspections have revealed the multi-play unit to be unsafe and it must be replaced. Additionally, when the Play Area was designed and built insufficient consideration was given to the less-able.

Our goals:

  • The project will enable the replacement of unsafe and outdated equipment.
  • The project will enable the installation of equipment usable by less-able children.
  • The project will encourage the use of the Play Area to the benefit of the children and their carers.

How we will achieve our goals

The Community Award will all be used for the purchase and installation of a multi-play unit and, a cantilevered swing and turn-table both of which are designed to be usable by less-able children. The installation of this equipment will lead to the increased use of the Play Area and helping to provide a social focal point for their carers.

Where the money will go

The Play Area is a public facility for the use of 1-17 year olds in the villages of Burton and Puddington. These villages are isolated rural communities with no public transport and the Play Area is the only such facility for miles around. The introduction of play equipment for the less-able children will open new possibilities for those children.

The play area serves two villages and without help to renovate it, there is little doubt that it will have to close eradicating the lifeline of fun and play which it had previously provided to the children of Burton and Puddington. It would be wonderful for both villages if the play area could be given financial assistance in order to continue the years of happiness it has brought to generations of children. Those who are less able are entirely prevented from that enjoyment and the redevelopment and refurbishment would allow traditional, constructive and positive outdoor play, away from the burdening technological world and pressures that children growing up today are facing.

We see the playground from our house, and can confirm that it has been well used over the years by local children, but sadly the items there have had to be removed one by one as they become unsafe, and the village hall cannot afford to replace them. It would make a big difference to be able to re-equip it.

Burton Village is lacking in amenities and the playground is a happy safe environment for the children to meet and have fun. My own children & grandchildren have had many hours pleasure at the playground before it became unsafe.

Burton play area is closed. Unsafe. With all your votes we hope to restore and re-open
the play area. Thank you all.
