Peebles Scout replacement hall project

We aim to include a space that can facilitate outdoor activities. Our venue is used nightly by the Scout Group. These improvements will open up our group to more young people allowing us to cater more effectively for, and create a more welcoming accessible venue to, those with disabilities.

Our goals:

  • Create opportunities to expose the Young People to a greater range of activities and experiences than the current facility affords. The benefit would be felt immediately by the current 166 strong membership,
  • Peebles Scout Group is a much loved contributor to the Peebles Community. The Group provides a challenging programme to its young people aged 6-18, with an emphasis on emotional and educational development promoting social responsibility
  • The facility would be once again attractive to the wider Community and would be available for Community activities.

How we will achieve our goals

Following complete improvement of our Hall facilities we are now fundraising to improve our grounds and accessibility, aiming to deliver :- • Excavation and preparation of suitably levelled grounds to incorporate provision of • Disabled access ramp • Disabled parking • Remaining ground covering to be finished using chip materials

Where the money will go

These improvements in place we would also be benefiting our community as a whole – allowing a greater number of community groups to make use of a fully accessible space in the town.

Peebles will benefit massively from a new Scout hall. The old hall badly needed replacing and scouting groups in the future will have a great experience with new facilities.

Scouting has to compete against many other activities in Peebles, team sports such as Rugby and out doors activities such as mountain biking which get far more lucrative sponsorships from private business, government and third sector organisations. Our scouting organisation aims only to improve the lives of our young people and they do this off their own back with little or no such help.

I am very happy to support the Peebles Scout Group, who are led by a wonderful team of volunteers. This facility would be of real benefit for youngsters living in the Peebles area and would see years of hard work come to fruition. It is vital for communities such as Peebles to have facilities for our youngsters and this Scout Hall is a perfect example of a facility that will greatly enhance the area.
