Nuffield Southampton Theatres - Reconnecting Through Theatre
NST is a registered charity, we will deliver a year’s programme of live theatre and participation, free to groups, schools and in partnership with other local charities including: young carers, the homeless, terminally ill children and their families, those with learning or physical difficulties, refugees and children in areas of most deprivation.
- To give 870 people in Southampton the opportunity to experience live theatre free of charge, who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend.
- To engage 2,360 people through 10 curriculum based schools workshops, 6 training workshops, 8 participation events and 8 backstage tours for our community, to immerse themselves in the creation of live theatre in a professional environment.
- To overcome access issues and work with 3230 people in Southampton to provide free theatre experiences, educational, social, inclusive, fun and skills based training through the performing arts.
How we will achieve our goals
This money will help us reach more people and overcome the barriers to attendance for those, either at most disadvantage, or where disability or funding is an obstacle to participation, with: free tickets, specialist practitioners, equipment and transport to facilitate access to these activities.
Where the money will go
Participation in the arts makes a real impact on people’s lives. Confidence, inclusion, social interaction and education all flourish. Improving lives and, in turn communities, through shared stories and experiences, raising aspirations of local people in a professional environment and providing their first encounter with the creative process.
