North Ayrshire Macular Support Group

Our group meets on a monthly basis, all our members are visually impaired, most are registered. We have a vey diverse age range and ability. Most items for blind or visually impaired are costly, a grant would enable us to enhance the lives of members and open up new avenues for them.

Our goals:

  • Our objective is to enable the visually impaired to have the knowledge and ability through meeting others to understand and accept their condition.
  • Through meetings and speakers they will have access to help and benefit advice and through interacting with those with similar problems come to a better understanding of their illness.
  • Through technology they can find was of dealing with their sight loss.

How we will achieve our goals

We would access the needs of members and find how technology could help them. Some may wish an E – reader and others tablets with text to speak or telephones with large buttons. The new Echo Dot is another item to be considered.

Where the money will go

Coming to the group makes a difference to our members, meeting others in the same position. We discuss how to enhance our lives and have speakers most months from the visually impaired world. ie RNIB, Macular Society, local celebs and other interests.
