Long Sutton Cricket Club

With an improved playing surface and better consistency in match play, the club is hoping the covers will both sustain and increase current membership levels. A further junior section is also planned for next season. It also enables more training and development of players with less matches being lost, or abandoned, due to rain during the season.

Our goals:

  • There were 10 matches last year that were either lost to the weather, or had delayed starts, because the pitch had to be dried first. We estimate that at least five of these could have been saved with proper covers.
  • To create further training and development opportunities during club and match days with faster pitch recovery. Further junior team being added. Currently has 3 men's and 3 junior sections (U11'S, u13's and U15's) so pitch protection is vital.
  • A league membership requirement is to provide adequate covers. Current heavy plastic sheet leaks and puts rain onto the wicket. Proposed mobile covers are easy to move and guarantees that games are not cancelled, delayed or spoilt by flooded wickets.

How we will achieve our goals

The award would enable the mobile net covers to be quickly purchased and brought into use straight away.

Where the money will go

The covers would help secure the existing and future sports provision for this small, but friendly, village club; where both children and parents can play cricket together. Site is open access with many local residents and community groups also using cricket pavilion, football and general sports field provision for local village events.
