KIDS Wylde Green Community Garden

(West Midlands)

We want to create a safe and exciting community garden where children of all abilities, their families & friends, can have fun, play and exercise with ease, and have the opportunity to explore their surroundings and the outdoors.

Our goals:

  • Funding will be used to physically transform our outdoor space to create a safe & stimulating outdoor space, where children can learn, play and exercise. This space currently cannot be accessed & we want to create a community garden for all to enjoy.
  • Empower disabled children and young people – giving them the confidence and independence to access leisure and recreational activities in a setting where they are encouraged, accepted and supported from a very young age.
  • Reduce isolation of disabled young people, increase wellbeing, improve physical fitness & improve access to open spaces by under represented groups. The space will provide an extended educational setting for all young people who access the centre.

How we will achieve our goals

The community award will fund a team from Creative Play to transform our outdoor space. After consultation with local families we have created plans for an accessible outdoor space for the entire community to benefit from. The space will then allow us to reach our other project objectives & continue to support disabled young people & their families

Where the money will go

At least 110 local disabled children & their families will benefit regularly from the garden. Parents & carers will also benefit from knowing that their child is able to play & explore in a safe, inclusive outdoor space that is tailored to their needs. We hope to welcome the local community & professionals on completion.
