K6 Gallery

(Hampshire)

This project will renovate a pair of old K6 telephone kiosks in the Southampton’s old town and convert their use to an exhibition space. As an art gallery it will offer a platform for local creatives and artists from the local community to exhibit their work and curate exhibitions, including students from Southampton Solent Art Studios (opposite).

Our goals:

  • Complete the purchase of the phone boxes from BT - these are available for just £1 each as part of BT's adopt a kiosk scheme.
  • Plan and organise a programme of exhibitions and arts events for the forth coming year. Liaising with local creatives and arts groups.
  • Renovate the kiosks and start installing exhibitions.

How we will achieve our goals

The community award could cover all our costs, including liability insurance, renovation, the cost of hosting and installing exhibitions and marketing materials.

Where the money will go

As a regeneration project, run by local volunteers this would be a quirky arts venue in Southampton. Restoring these kiosks improves the local environment & engages local residents (including those in nearby sheltered & social housing) to have a greater sense of place and well-being as well as being a way to get the local residents engaged in art.
