Independent Session for SEN children aged 2-5 years
All Springboard children have a speech or communication difficulty, some have a range of complex health needs, life limiting conditions or developmental delay, all need specialised intensive adult support. Funding would provide a 2.5 hour session per week, delivering a varied range of activities designed to meet the needs of the children.
- Children will increase their independence and social skills through playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking. Activities will take place both indoors and outside supporting their individual learning styles, needs and interests. This child-centred approach contributes positively to better life outcomes
- Children will develop communication skills which are fundamental to their everyday existence, inclusion and progression. These are achieved through the use of communication methods such as Makaton, PECS and objects of reference as well as speech.
- Children’s social emotional and behavioral development will be promoted through a nurturing and safe environment. A sense of belonging and positive identity is crucial, promoting positive outcomes for mental health and well-being.
How we will achieve our goals
Springboard already has specialised trained staff, the award would fund the salaries to continue to deliver a ‘non statutory’ session. The demand for sessions remains increasingly high and therefore this would be a response to new and existing need.
Where the money will go
Springboard works in partnership with parents, children centres and mainstream settings to embed practices which increases inclusion of our children. This work is essential for removing barriers & providing better transitions, consequently there is a greater likelihood of community cohesion and belonging for these children.
