Heddington Preschool outside area refurbishment and Forest School development

(Wiltshire)

Heddington preschool is a community led preschool. Based in a small village, the preschool serves the local children as well as those from nearby towns, offering funded 2/3 year old places. To improve sustainability as well as the education and experience we want to refurbish and expand the outside area and train staff to get forest school status.

Our goals:

  • To train a member of staff and therefore achieve forest school status. This additional offering will attract additional children and ensure continued viability of the preschool.
  • To enhance the preschool experience for the children by creating a grass play area for outside games. This will give the children their own space to run around, rather than the current limited access to a shared school field.
  • To advertise and share the preschool more widely within the local area

How we will achieve our goals

Funding would allow us to train a member of staff and apply for forest school status. We have identified an area of land which we can work together with the adjacent primary school to turn into a grassed outside play area. Funding will be used to fence the area and buy play and forest school equipment.

Where the money will go

Heddington is a rural community, we have a preschool and small primary school which are thriving. To continue, it is important to share them with families from nearby towns. Learning through play, especially practical outside activities provides a foundation for learning which all children can benefit from and the facilities attract new families
