Hangleton Youth Band
The band was established in 1965. Currently our Youth Band has 51 members but we can include more if we have the resources to provide instruments music etc. We then want to give them opportunities to develop as players and young people. Finally providing a larger concert venue in the local community will allow our local supporters to see the band.
- Enable six more young people to join the band by buying instruments There are currently 6 people waiting to join the band – they will gain the cognitive, emotional and physical benefits of playing music. Instruments will last for at least 10 years.
- Provide an inspirational musical residential experience for 40 players. We want to go on a residential in February 2018 to play in care homes and schools in Wales. Players will benefit personally and musically from spending time away from home.
- Enable 200 people from the local community to hear the band. This will be a great performance opportunity for the young players as well as developing wider links with the community. The performance will promote the band and encourage others to join.
How we will achieve our goals
With funding: we will be able to purchase instruments and involve new members in the band. Instruments will last at least 10 years. Our planned trip for 2018 will require some parental contribution, but as we have several families in the band it would be helpful to offer financial support to them. We would use funds to hire a local concert hall.
Where the money will go
Benefits of learning a musical instrument include developing team skills, discipline, etc. It also relieves stress and promotes social skills. From the residential trip band members will benefit from being away from home and trying out new activities. Residential trips are recognised as improving self confidence, engagement in learning etc.
