Get Out There!

To encourage our students to spend time outdoors, engaged in sport, exploration and recreation. The New School is a residential therapeutic learning community offering secondary education to young people who are on the autistic spectrum and/or are dealing with a range of emotional/behavioural difficulties. The school is a registered charity.

Our goals:

  • To encourage our students and young adults to be outdoors in the beautiful forested hill land in the neighbourhood of our school.
  • For our students and young adults to recognise for themselves the benefits to their wellbeing and health that derive from being outdoors.
  • To provide significant opportunities for skills development in outdoor sports, exploration and recreation.

How we will achieve our goals

This project will take full advantage of the outdoor education experience of many of the school’s staff that, presently, cannot be fully realised due to a lack of equipment and storage facility. This award would provide the kit necessary to significantly improve the outdoor education experience of our students and young adults.

Where the money will go

This project would make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of our school community and provide a great opportunity for sports skills and life skills development in our unique local environment.
