Garden House Hospice Music Therapy

(Hertfordshire)

This project is to continue to help patients improve their wellbeing, reducing distress and alleviating social isolation. It provides an outlet for expression and communication, which enables peace and relaxation. Sessions are tailored to the individual’s needs and interests. There is also a choir for patients.

Our goals:

  • To help patients with a life limiting illness to be able to relax and enjoy some music, according to their own wishes.
  • To have an open choir for anyone connected to the hospice - patients, family members, carers and volunteers - to bring people together and lift their spirits.
  • To have an open group offering services to day patients, in which they would sing songs together, listen to and talk about pieces of music they have chosen, and improvise around different themes and styles. Singing is beneficial

How we will achieve our goals

This project would be achieved by employing a specialist teacher from Suffolk Music Therapy Services, who is qualified to provide these services, for one day per week over a year.

Where the money will go

This project benefits anyone in the community who is personally affected by a life-limiting illness, such as cancer, heart disease, or other degenerative conditions, and also their family and friends, and the many volunteers, who would be able to join in some of these activities, such as the choir in particular.
