First Luton Sea Scouts - Sanitary Block

We are in need of a washroom and toilet block in order to provide basic sanitary facilities at our lakeside location. Existing facilities are inadequate and often had to be hired in. A sanitary block will greatly benefit the Group members as well as the many Scout Groups and Leader trainees to their oversubscribed water activity and training days

Our goals:

  • Providing basic sanitary facilities fit for purpose. Existing facilities are temporary and far from adequate, considering activities involve cold and unhygienic lake water and young participants.
  • Meeting Health and Safety guideline. There are currently no provisions for hot water at the site. With participants as young as 6, we have a duty of care to make sure there is sufficient cleaning facilities with running hot water.
  • Creating a nicer environment and improving hygiene standards Having a permanent sanitary block in situ will provide a facility necessary for the activity and training days that the Group offers to its members.

How we will achieve our goals

The Community Award will certainly help expedite the project. The Group have been trying to raise funds for years and many discussions have been held and halted due to insufficient funds. It has come to a point where a proper sanitary block becomes a requirement rather than an enhancement due to the popularity of the activities on offer.

Where the money will go

1st Luton Sea Scouts is a very popular Scout Group with young people travelling from as far as Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire to become members and participants. The project will make a massive difference in providing a much needed cleaning facility to the vast number of participants.

Good luck in achieving this very important project.

A really worthwhile and necessary cause. These Scouts run a lot of activities for local scout troops and cub packs. They need to hire toilets for these events, so this would save them money and leave more to spend on equipment for all to benefit.

More support for groups like yours is needed, giving those in land locked locations a chance to experience sea borne skills more readily.

Facility will be greatly advanced with the £25k. Over 450 young people across the County attend water events and over 120 members of the Group enjoy numerous water activities. We held “Bear in the Air” there in 2013 when Chief Scout Bear Grylls came to speak to hundreds of young people.

First Luton Sea Scouts provide great opportunities for young people to try activities for the first time. They also open their facilities to Scouts (boys and girls) across Bedfordshire so offering water activities to a large number of people. A great project to support.

1st Luton provide an excellent facility for young people from age 6 to 18, plus a well run training opportunity to give adult leaders the experience to enhance the whole scouting network.
This grant would be a fantastic investment for continuing the great work they do for everyone, with the benefit of the much needed facilities for showers and ablutions for years to come.

The Water Days are fab, but proper toilets would be an absolute bonus!

Biggleswade Beavers had a great watersports day earlier this year and these facilities would be a great added benefit for the facility. Hats off to all the volunteers and hope you get the funding.

This is a very popular Scout Group with access to some of the best facilities anywhere in Bedfordshire. They are now in their 108th year of service to youth in the area. They deserve all the support we can give them for this project.

My children have attended the fantastic water days that have been put on by the 1st Luton Sea Scouts. We feel that they deserve the opportunity to provide better facilities. Many scouts, cubs and beavers will benefit from this.
