Ferring CC Colts All Weather Playing Strip

(West Sussex)

A new non-turf pitch is required in order to meet the increased demand for child (Colts) cricket matches & practice. It will benefit children from 8yrs to adult. Another benefit of a non-turf pitch is that it will take pressure off the square, allowing the voluntary groundsman to concentrate on maintaining the turf strips for senior cricket.

Our goals:

  • The non turf strip will be added onto the side of the square, no natural turf playing surfaces will be lost as result of installation. The installation will make the new non turf strip follow the contour of the original ground. No facility lost to the club and community, only gained.
  • The square’s natural turf pitches usage has to be managed and rotated to accommodate Adult and Colts cricket. The natural turf can only take a certain amount of usage before its use is stopped to prevent significant or irreparable damage. The non turf pitch can be used when wet and will allow more colts games to be organised and played without any damage and increased maintenance to the natural turf square.
  • The non turf strip would remove the pressure of increased usage by colts cricket off the natural turf playing surfaces. It allows planned regular repairs and maintenance of the natural turf square to take place.

How we will achieve our goals

It will allow current training sessions to be enhanced – it will be a suitable practice surface too (rather than the outfield surface) and specific or game based practice can be achieved without damaging or wearing away the natural turf of the square. It will benefit the community by allowing us as a club to provide them with an increased amount of colts cricket matches, getting children outdoors, having fun, exercise and fresh air in a safe environment.

Where the money will go

This project will enable the club to provide a facility for children to practice and play more cricket matches. It will allow the coaches to enhance coaching and training sessions. The new facility will attract more children from the community to play cricket. It will benefit the children by them being active & having fun in a safe environment.
