EXMOUTH GIG ROWING CLUB

(Devon)

The local community and surrounding area benefit from the traditional activities offered by our not for profit club. Gig rowing has many health and social benefits, providing a safe and welcoming environment to people of all backgrounds from the age of 14 upwards. The club attracts people who admit they might otherwise not exercise at all.

Our goals:

  • Obtain a new Cornish Pilot Gig for the club to enable the us to offer more rowing opportunities to the community, to enter into more competitive regattas and to provide those competing with high quality equipment to enable them to be more competitive
  • Increase capacity using better equipment enabling the club to explore extending opportunities to schools and youth groups, something which we simply do not currently have capacity for.
£25k project Currently ranked in

How we will achieve our goals

An award of £25000 would allow us to commission and purchase a new, traditionally built, wooden gig, along with the relevant equipment including seat pads, oars and safety equipment. Only traditionally built wooden gigs are allowed to compete.

Where the money will go

This club brings people together from a broad range of ages and backgrounds whom might otherwise never meet. Increasing our capacity will allow us to further extend these chances throughout our community, offering something for everyone, be it a chance to simply get out on the water or to race in the world pilot gig championships.

I am part of this club, and its fantastic. The members and committee are all so friendly and welcoming. The sport has boosted my confidence, my fitness and general well being. It’s also family friendly, and our kids (future oar benders) are much apart of the club as the adults. They deserve a new gig boat, specially when we have to bail out Rodney Bey after every race.

As we head into the last few hours of voting I want to take the time to express how thankful the Club is for all of your support.
We couldn’t have wished for a better response from friends, family, fellow gig club members & indeed members of the Exmouth Community that we didn’t even know but who can see what this could do for them and us!
Please for these last few hours keep sharing and talking about our bid to win this funding and we will see to it that should we come first we will ensure that every last penny of this vital funding will go towards a boat and equipment that the whole community can access for years to come !!
