ExeCalibre New Dragon Boat

(Devon)

ExeCalibre Dragon Boat Club offers the opportunity for individuals from across the South West to train and race throughout the year on the River Exe. This project to buy a 10man boat will enable our paddlers to consistently work on their fitness levels, their physical and mental wellbeing and of course, their paddling technique and skills.

Our goals:

  • The award of £5000 would be used in its entirety to purchase the new 10-man boat and associated equipment.
  • The 10man dragon boat will enable us to run more focused taster sessions for Scouts and other youth groups. In addition we can run Charity Regattas which will raise funds for local charities; this can only be done if we have a selection of boats.
  • The 10man boat would mean that the club can focus its training sessions to enable all its members to get fitter, stronger and faster as well as being able to work as a team.

How we will achieve our goals

ExeCalibre would use this award to purchase a new 10man Dragon Boat. A second smaller boat would allow our paddlers to race each other on even terms and also train with the different challenges a smaller boat presents. In addition we would support our community, offering an improved racing experience for local schools, charities and businesses.

Where the money will go

The smaller 10-man boats bring exciting possibilities for community involvement as well as flexibility in club training. The flexibility that a 10man boat offers would mean that Exe-Calibre could help to improve the training experience of our members and improve our support of schools, charities and businesses in the South West.
