Enabling access and inclusion at Kings Bowls Club

(Devon)

Kings Bowls Club is wishing to bring the sport of bowls to all, but their current facilities make it difficult for this to be achieved. The funding will enable members, their families and the wider community to not only have the opportunity to take part in the sport, but also enjoy the social networks and support that a bowls club offers.

Our goals:

  • To enable people of all abilities to be able to enjoy the sport of bowls by providing facilities for disabled people which includes a toilet, access ramp and level access to the changing areas.
  • To ensure that the kitchen facilities meet current Food Hygiene standards with the creation of separate food preparation areas, separate wash hand basin and better cooking facilities.
  • To be able to cater more effectively at events to provide a more social and enjoyable atmosphere. Kings Bowls Club has a good social atmosphere, but the bar facilities mean that this is currently limited.

How we will achieve our goals

It will help us to make Bowls a Sport for all by allowing us to fund the essential reconfiguration of the club house to provide facilities suitable for the 21st Century. We have held many successful open days to attract members, but our limited facilities make it difficult to encourage people from all sectors of the Community to try our sport.

Where the money will go

All members of the community will be able to access our facilities, whether it be by having wheelchair friendly access and facilities or by having somewhere welcoming to use for community groups and social events. The improved kitchen and bar area will enable us to cater more effectively for groups of people.
