East Kilbride Gymnastics Club
East Kilbride Gymnastics Club (EKGC) was founded in 1972 and has been dedicated in promoting the sport of gymnastics since. In 2010 the club attained Gymmark certification, in recognition of a safe, effective and child-friendly club. Now in 2015, it has over 600 gymnasts and is a registered charity (SCO39629) providing gymnastics to the community.
- To improve the health and well-being in the community of East Kilbride and surrounding areas. Gymnastics provides an excellent foundation for all sports, not just gymnastics, and promotes positive physical, mental and social health and well-being.
- To increase participation in gymnastics, at all ages and ability levels, from 18 months through to adult age; and from an introductory level to those that compete at an international level. The equipment would be for the use of all gymnasts.
- To promote the sport of gymnastics to a wide and varied audience. EKGC provides local access to gymnastics, a friendly and inclusive club and allows for participation at any level and the opportunity to develop to the best level possible.
How we will achieve our goals
An award would allow EKGC to buy equipment to improve the opportunities of the gymnasts, by enhancing the equipment available for use. From providing our pre-school children with skills which are useful in any sport, not just gymnastics, to our recreational gymnasts being able to learn new moves to our competitive gymnasts developing their talent.
Where the money will go
All the equipment will be of use to the 600+ gymnasts who attend EKGC each week. It would allow everyone from pre-school to recreational level to competitive tumbling, artistic and acrobatic gymnasts to progress to their own ability. EKGC are hoping in the future to start classes for children with disabilities and this equipment would be ideal.
