DREAMBUILDING - St Wilfrid’s New Hospice Appeal
When the hospice opened 30 years ago, we had 188 referrals. Last year this rose to over 900. Our current building is no longer fit for purpose and we have plans to build an urgently needed new hospice, providing 50% more space. The new hospice will benefit the whole community: patients, their families, staff, volunteers and our health care partners
- To provide, for the first time, a dedicated Family Retreat Room. This will give families and friends more privacy and dignity in which to have sensitive conversations and bereavement counselling, as well as a peaceful space for private reflection.
- To provide more and extended care at home. Creatively designed spaces will improve team communication and workflows, enabling us to increase staff delivering our specialist services in peoples' homes and care homes, throughout our catchment area.
- To provide more facilities. We will have over 50% more useable space, enabling us to accommodate more outpatient clinics, rooms for complementary therapies, occupational therapies and physiotherapy: along with a dedicated gym and art therapy room.
How we will achieve our goals
The cost of the Family Retreat Room will be £25,000. This will be in our new purpose built hospice in Bosham, which will have the 21st facilities we so urgently need to provide our specialist services and dignified end-of-life care to over 240 patients at any one time. This room is vital for the community we serve.
Where the money will go
Our care extends to everyone living between Emsworth and Arundel, all along the South Coast and North to the Downs. We serve one of the oldest populations in England – 25% are aged 65+ against a national average of 17%. This is set to increase further and by 2026 the number of 65 years olds will increase by 38% and over 85 year olds by 69%.
