Worle in All Weathers: enabling all-year football training and creating an outdoor area around the clubhouse
The project will give year-round access to sports facilities at the only park in Worle with grass pitches. The facilities are used by children age 11 – 14, young adults age 16 – 30, and families. The project will provide hardstanding around the clubhouse, lights and an awning. Outcome: improved sports and social provision for the clubs.
- Improve access to, and increase the use of, the clubhouse by providing hardstanding and shelter for events, and all-weather storage.
- Enable year-round use of the two grass pitches using portable lighting for Winter/Autumn training.
How we will achieve our goals
The Award will enable the purchase of materials to create an outdoor area for viewing and social purposes. Hand-in-hand is the purchase of lights to enable the area and pitches to be used all year round. Volunteers will carry out the work except where professional expertise is required. Risk assessments would be carried out if necessary.
Where the money will go
The outdoor area will provide an area in which to safely watch sport, and socialise. It also creates storage (currently clubhouse ground gets boggy, making it difficult to store the portable goal posts). The project enables existing pitches to be used all year instead of having to seek alternative floodlit venues at least 40 mins drive away.
