Community Centre Kitchen renovation.

The kitchen is part of a Church complex located in a community center – a resource used by many independent groups. The present condition limits the development of the current programmes and the future vision. It is inhibiting the need to increase the number of users including the homeless, elderly, single parents and adults with learning difficulties.

Our goals:

  • Have a kitchen that meets Health & Safety and Food hygiene Standards enabling the programmes in place to continue to develop, including advice & provision of a meal for the homeless & supporting adults with learning difficulties.
  • As well as being a resource to community groups, the vision is to open an Employment Plus programme - a resource offering skill based training, meals & advice for long term unemployed. A programme that's proved very successful elsewhere
  • Following an identified need, the center wants to offer throughout the school holidays, free breakfasts to children up to the age of 12. This would be in association with local schools & community groups. The breakfast club will be run by volunteers.

How we will achieve our goals

The renovation of the kitchen will be started immediately upon gaining a Community Award, and will likely take less than 3 months to completion. It will ensure the present programmes can continue & will give the green light to developing the 2 new programmes:- i) for the unemployed & ii) a breakfast club for children during the school holidays.

Where the money will go

The major benefit will be the continuing provision & enhancement of the present programmes, and exciting new developments in association with local schools. These programmes will meet identified needs for the elderly, the unemployed & disadvantaged in our local community

This is a brilliant, very well used and vital part of the community enabling highly vulnerable people, often with complex needs, to eat nourishing well cooked food, access services and begin to recover.
