Church Road Lantern Parade - The Lamplighters

We would like the funding to bring varied sections of our community together with a Lantern Parade through A420 Church Road in Bristol. This will be our 4th parade and it is growing stronger every year. This years theme is a Celebration of Collective Nouns. Vote for us to create a “Memory of Elephants”, a “Skulk of Foxes” and a “Smack of Jellyfish”

Our goals:

  • The award will help develop outreach lantern workshops and enable attendance for sections of the community who might otherwise feel excluded. The workshops reduce isolation, 95% of last years participants surveyed met new people during the project.
  • Hold creative workshops with lantern artists within 4 local schools.
  • Presents a community of many different backgrounds with a common place to celebrate together and enjoy each others company, outside at the darkest time of year.

How we will achieve our goals

A Community Award will pay for all aspects of the project delivery which is otherwise difficult to find funding for, it gives people in the community with less money the ability to participate in professional creative workshops.

Where the money will go

The lantern parade benefits the community through reducing isolation as people participate in a fun and educational way to celebrate darkness through shedding light. It is an opportunity to showcase the potential of an otherwise busy traffic route to be an annimated and vibrant place where people can come together.
