Carlton Community Library Hub

(North Yorkshire)

This project will help to stock the newly formed Carlton Community Hub. We have used books which have been donated but some newer books appealing to our users would be wonderful. The Community hub is open to both the youngest in our village, through Little Monkeys, Toddler story time, and our older residents who can’t get into town.

Our goals:

  • Buy new books which appeal to our library users and provide storage for them.
  • Increase the number of regular users of the library through availability of good books.
  • Enable visually impaired readers access to reading.

How we will achieve our goals

The award will allow us to cater to the needs of our library users as we could buy books aimed at their interests. Buying of kindles allows changes in the font size most appropriate to each user. They are lightweight and store many books. This makes them lighter to hold for both the young and old. New shelving would then be necessary also.

Where the money will go

The availability of a library locally means that users are not reliant on the irregular bus service into town. The mobile library service has already ceased. The Hub also provides a wonderful meeting place and social support group for users young and old and parents of children with special needs.
