Butts Park Table Tennis Facility

Our leisure and play area is situated among social housing and includes a tarmacked area. On the hardstanding we aim to site an outdoor table tennis table, with spectator seating, storage for equipment on the grass surround. We aim to start a table tennis group, to include all ages and abilities, including disabled.

Our goals:

  • To provide a physical activity that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities within our community. We have members of the community who are very capable table tennis players and willing to pass on their skills.
  • By mixing the ages and abilities within the table tennis games, we want to encourage community cohesion, particularly encouraging mutual respect between the generations. By providing spectator seating, we hope to encourage newcomers to enjoy the game
  • Our village is rural and isolated, with little public transport, relying heavily on community resources. This facility will be accessible at all times, free of charge, encouraging, fun and fitness for all within our community and its visitors

How we will achieve our goals

At present all we have is the leisure and play area, which is owned by the community, including the tarmacked area. With the help of a Community Award we can buy all the equipment we need to start our community table tennis group. We have chosen good quality items to ensure that this activity will have a long living impact on our community.

Where the money will go

Being situated amongst social housing, community cohesion is important to us. 67% of our community live in social/rented housing and the more affluent live in higher value housing on the river banks. We believe that the outdoor table tennis facility will bring the age groups and social groups together to enjoy a healthy and sociable activity.
