Better Thinking About Money - Schools Project
After a successful pilot we will now further develop our ‘Better Thinking About Money’ Course to help young people develop vital money management skills, deliver it to all Year 12 students in two local schools, and create a resource including DVD and course materials for others to use ‘off the shelf’ creating a much wider impact for the project.
- Further develop our 'Better Thinking About Money' programme, and deliver Stage 1, introducing concepts such as saving, debt and money management (6 one hour sessions), to all Year 12 students in West Derby Comprehensive and one other local school.
- Gain recognition for the Stage 2 course through the Open Awards ‘Badge of Excellence’ quality assurance mark, and deliver the Stage 2 course to those students who want to take the learning further, completion of which will be formally certificated.
- Create 'off the shelf' multimedia resources that could be easily used by teachers or others in a range of settings to replicate the learning opportunity and ensure that the Better Thinking About Money course has a much broader, longer term impact.
How we will achieve our goals
The Community Award will be used to employ experienced and skilled individuals to further develop our course to quality assured standard, and then deliver and assess the course. It will also fund course materials, certification for learners, and enable us to work with a professional scriptwriter/director to ensure high quality DVD resources.
Where the money will go
In a community where many struggle financially, our project will have a positive lifelong impact on the ability of young people to manage their money and avoid financial crisis, and share this learning with family and friends. The ‘off the shelf’ resources allow these benefits to reach a much broader group of people in this and other communities.
