Clubhouse Kitchen

I have been working for 11 years to get a home for the hockey club, and have finally succeeded. In this time the sport, and this club, has been booming, and we now have nearly 500 children as members, from 4-18, plus their parents, who want to be able to enjoy a hot snack and a soft drink after training and matches.

Our goals:

  • To provide hot food and drink (hockey is mainly a winter sport) for the children and parents. The juniors train or play every day except Saturday (although many play adult hockey then), across the age groups, so a kitchen is essential.
  • To provide hot food after adult matches on Saturdays as part of regenerating a club 'spirit'. This will take some time - the club has been without a pitch side clubhouse for a long time, and having facilities people want to be in will make a huge difference.
  • The whole project is about taking a successful local community sports club that offers opportunities for all abilities, and developing it into a vibrant club with a secure base in the heart of it's local area. A key part of that development is a well fitted kitchen in the clubhouse.

How we will achieve our goals

At the moment we do no know how we could effectively fit out the kitchen. A grant of £5000 would ensure we have the funds. We will use domestic cupboards, cooker, dishwasher, etc because it’s not a commercial kitchen and it’s cheaper, but the work has to be done properly as it will need a hygiene certificate. So it cannot be done in stages.

Where the money will go

Having come so far with creating a home for the club (due to the lack of local facilities most ‘home’ matches are currently played in Herts, no social area) it is amazing the level of growth that the junior section has achieved, all with a roughly 50/50 gender mix. The excitement about having a home shortly is huge, but we need a proper kitchen.

My son and I play for the club and as John says, we have been devoid of a home for our club for too many years. Now that we are finally seeing the fruits of John and the committee’s endeavours, it would be a real shame to not install good quality furniture and appliances.
    Well done John.

This would be a great facility to provide somewhere warm for everyone after a tough match and rest those weary legs (both players and parents) – Please support this worthy project !

Very important for this fantastic club that has brought generations of colts through into an excellent sport with high moral code.

This club has the been the centre of our family’s world for several years and we are very much looking forward to a wonderful new home pitch and clubhouse. With two children coming up through the colts section, both soon to be playing adult hockey, I cannot stress how valuable a properly fitted out clubhouse would be for the club. Without a central area for players and away teams to gather for food and friendship and a place for parents to watch their children and get a cup of coffee, etc, the sense of club spirit suffers. This grant would help make sure that doesn’t happen and would be a worthy addition to the funding raised by John and his team to make sure this project happened.

This will make a huge difference to the club. It’s importance to the members, parents an visitors can not be under estimated.

Well done John and all the rest of you working tirelessly. It’s noted from those of us at the back(!)

I have played for ACHC since 2005 in the ladies section and I think it will be truly awesome to have a home pitch and clubhouse . It will improve the spirit of the club, which is already high even with the lack of adequate clubhouse facilities and divided pitch usage.
This is an extremely exciting reality, John has worked so hard to achieve.

A warm welcoming clubhouse where you can warm up, get a hot drink and eat with the opposition, wait for your child or watch the next match sounds a very straightforward thing, but it is one which really builds the social ties within the club and between teams of different clubs.
This facility will hugely support the “community” aspects of this vibrant community sports club.

This would be a wonderful addition for a club that has so many young people playing hockey

    Fantastic work John and all.
This would be a great addition to a great club.

Happy to vote for this. It will make a huge difference to the morale of the club and a great space to use both before and after matches.

  14. Posted on November 8, 2016

Keep up the good work, can’t believe ACHC were without a home for so long.

  15. Posted on November 8, 2016

John has worked tirelessly to find a new home for the club. This would be a fantastic addition and enjoyed by the many children and adults who play and socialise around the great game of hockey. Thanks John, and I hope your energy and dedication brings the success you and the club deserve.

My two daughters love to play hockey and the club house is really needed! We are nearly there!

We are lucky to have many committed individuals to the club but John Spicer is someone we are very fortunate to have.

Great work and support to get us to where we are.

This would be a welcome facility for all club users to enjoy and use!

My daughter was looking for a sports club to join 8 years ago. We visited many, but ACHC was by far the most welcoming so we joined. Since then my other two children have started playing and after many years of not playing, I too have been persuaded to restart. My children now have a passion for hockey I hope for life! What the club has done in encouraging so many young people to take up the game is amazing. This facility will be the centre of the club’s activities, so a good kitchen will be very important – please vote for it!

Pleased to vote for this excellent Project put together by hard working volunteer members of the Club. This will really benefit young hockey players in the local community

  23. Posted on November 21, 2016

This is a really important project that needs funding to make sure that kids and adults playing hockey come together after the game to get the full hockey-club experience.
Well done John and the team for getting us this far.

  24. Posted on November 21, 2016

This project will not just benefit A&C hockey club, but the hundreds of children and parents of other local clubs (like myself and family), that John organises to come to play there via the junior Chiltern league structure. Will be a most worthy recipient of funding.

Just backing up what’s already been written below – a lot of work has gone into this very worthwhile project and this would really help take the dream to a reality.

  26. Posted on November 21, 2016

John and the team have worked tirelessly, devoting endless evenings and weekends with their families over the years making the club the success it is today. They are now short of funds, having exhausted all options during the clubs tough and difficult move! We are all looking forward to the new site and really need a functioning clubhouse, not just to warm the children, provide toilets and facilities but especially as hockey is a tough winter sport Yesterday’s endless freezing rain just demonstrates how much a shelter is needed not only for the children, but us freezing parents too!

My son started hockey after school run by John Spicer. He really enjoyed it, and now plays on the under 12’s team. The club is very supportive and positive, and I have never heard a harsh word or negative statement in the 2 seasons we’ve been going. This grant would be a real help to the club and its members.

  28. Posted on November 23, 2016

The clubhouse is such an essential part of the club. The club is a wonderful environment to see our children grow in their hockey skills and fitness, and the post-match socialising aspect is also an essential part of their growth. The extra funding would really enhance everyone’s enjoyment.

Voted so Gaz can have somewhere to make and enjoy a cuppa!
