Amberswood View - a secluded retreat in the hospice gardens

(Greater Manchester)

We plan to provide a secluded garden in a natural setting as a beautiful retreat for patients and their visitors. At what is an incredibly difficult time we want to provide a place where they can go to think or reflect in private. This garden will feel completely natural and help our patients and visitors retreat to a place of calm and peace.

Our goals:

  • To provide a secluded retreat for patients and visitors for them to spend time in quiet reflection. This retreat will be a haven, away from the formality of the hospice setting, and allow patients to feel they are stepping back in to 'normal' life.
  • To create a natural garden area suited to the prevailing conditions which will include wild flower planting, grasses and fruit and vegetables to harvest for the Hospice kitchens.
  • To provide a natural habitat which will attract a variety of wildlife including butterflies, bees, birds and bats. This will create a point of interest and discussion for families and children enabling them to make new lasting memories.

How we will achieve our goals

We have developed a comprehensive project plan and are confident we can deliver this project on time and within budget.

Where the money will go

The Hospice has been caring for the people of Wigan and Leigh for almost 35 years and in that time has cared for tens of thousands of patients. We care for over 1,000 patients every year and have many more visitors to the Hospice site. The new facility will provide a place of special retreat and comfort, different to anything we currently have.
