Acorn House, The Sick Children's Trust
Acorn House provides accommodation for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at Addenbrooke\’s Hospital. It helps aid the recovery of seriously ill children and support the well-being of the family so that they can be together through the terrible crisis of having a very sick child. Acorn House urgently needs a new kitchen.
- The kitchen at Acorn House is 14 years old and needs replacing. Families will be able to cook a meal for themselves or their child in hospital so they are able to maintain some stability of family life at a difficult time.
- Approximately 450 families every year will stay at Acorn House and use the kitchen. The kitchen is the central hub of the house where families meet and share experiences with other families with seriously ill children in hospital.
- Families will have reduced stress and therefore better able to support each other and their child in hospital when they are able to rest and eat properly. Siblings of the child in hospital will benefit from being able to stay with their parents.
