An inter-generational community choir for people who suffer from isolation and mental health problems. The choir will be non audition and people will be given a social prescription by local GP’s instead of drugs
- Working with the local GP surgeries and Totton & Eling Town Council to address the problem of isolation and mental health problems in the Totton area
- To reduce the work load of GP's and save the NHS money and beds It is well documented that music and singing are a proven means of lifting people's spirits, breaking down barriers and making new friends.
- To give people a sense of belonging, self worth and achievement. A hobby that lifts their spirits, gives them a new circle of friends and a sense of hope and enjoyment in life.
How we will achieve our goals
Although GP’s are totally behind this project and keen to see it start they are unable to offer any funding. To encourage people to take up their social prescriptions we do not want to charge
Where the money will go
Totton has a higher rate of isolated people according to statistics provided by the council and backed up by local. GP’s. Instead of being given pills people will be offered fun, camaraderie, new friends and a sense of belonging and hopefully wanting to put something back into the community. Making it all ages helps to break down age barriers
