2nd Cuddington Scout - Access for the Disabled and Accessible Toilet Facilities

(Surrey)

As an active and outgoing Scout group, we want to make our premises accessible to everyone within our community and need to make significant adaptions to our Headquarters. This includes access ramps, removing steps to the building and the addition of an accessible toilet for use of our members in the Scout Group, the many visiting members of the Community as well as visitors from overseas who stay in our HQ.

Our goals:

  • Ultimately, we want to make our premise accessible to everyone within our community. Having disabled facilities will allow us to increase our ability to take young people and adults into the group with physical difficulties to enjoy the family of scouting with the independence they deserve without having to ask for assistance as they do at the moment.
  • Our Scout headquarters is used by many other groups in the community and these adaptions will make it even more available. To be able to offer these facilities for the disabled will allow them access to the building and make it even more available to the community. We want to be fully inclusive of all individuals who use our premises.
  • We have to rework the internal walls in our building to enable us to install the accessible toilet facilities. The installation of an access ramp and removing steps from the main entrance is also required.

How we will achieve our goals

We want to install this facility to make Scouting and our building accessible to everyone by the end of next year. We need the money to enable us to complete this work although we will still need to continue to fundraise for additional facilities required.

Where the money will go

Our facility will be able to be used by wheelchair users both for our Scout Group members and visitors. Enabling them privacy not provided in our normal toilets.

Good luck . The proposed upgrade is very exciting for the whole community. The Scout and Guild movement is more than ever needed in this age of disruption. The young need confidence to face the future. We have all had world distress growing up and support in a excellent facility will be helpful. And for our community.

The Scout movement is in great need of community and national support as the obvious way of encouraging outdoor activity and skills learning for the present and future generations as technology demands more and more time. This project presents a fine example of voluntary leadership and purpose
