1st Doddinghurst Scout Group

(Essex)

Our Scout Hut is used by nearly 100 young people every week – Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides. We have a great leadership team across the different sections that want to deliver a fantastic programme of events to each and every young person. Unfortunately the Scout Hut is badly in need of refurbishment and we need to do major works.

Our goals:

  • Expanding and replacing the kitchen will mean that all the uniformed groups will have a safe and clean space to develop their cooking and food preparation skills. The existing kitchen is very small, second hand 10 years ago & very difficult to clean.
  • The wonderful new kitchen space will means that we can grow the young people's confidence and independence by teaching them life skills.
  • We want to build tomorrow’s astronauts, Prime Ministers, scientists, MasterChefs etc by inspiring the young people to have faith in themselves and giving them the opportunity to try new experiences and lead others.

How we will achieve our goals

A Community Award of £10000 would be fantastic as it would allow us to expand our kitchen area and replace the kitchen, kitchen appliances and kitchen equipment. A Community Award is pivotal to undertaking this project.

Where the money will go

The Scout Hut is headquarters for all of Doddinghurst’s uniformed organisations. Those organisations in turn support the local community by cooking and serving lunches to the elders of the village, tidying the graveyard, assisting at local fetes and many other great activities. If the Scout hut were unusable, the organisations could not meet.

Doddinghurst, being a small village, has a lovely community and, for the youngsters, scouting is a great way for them to get together, learn and have fun. Obviously the Scout Hut is their ‘home’ and would love to see it continue to be for many years to come.
