173rd Woodhouse Scout Group

(South Yorkshire)

We are starting a new Scout group in Woodhouse a suburb of Sheffield. The group will start with a Beaver Scout group that is aimed at children aged 5-8 years old, with numbers anticipated around 20 also a Cub scout group for boys and girls aged 8 to 11 years old, for up to 30

Our goals:

  • The group will give local children the chance to try different activities and adventures not usually open to them in our area.
  • Within 18 months so have grown to a point were we support not only a sustainable Beavers and Cubs but Scouts for age 11-14 and Explorers and Network Scouts from 14 right up to 25 years old.
  • Engage the children and youth of Woodhouse by interacting with them using the main scout values of integrity, respect, care and cooperation. Values that will hopefully stay with them throughout their life.

How we will achieve our goals

We will endeavour to start the group in January with or without the funding. The funding would make such a difference to what we could achieve and provide for the children of the Woodhouse community that would otherwise not experience such adventure and develop life skills.

Where the money will go

There are no other established groups for children and young people in Woodhouse, something like this is desperately needed to engage and challenge the local children, the initial response is it will be very popular. The funding would make such a difference from just opening a Scout group to allowing us the equipment to make a real diffidence

Great to see everyone last week at the Taster event with 50+ parents and children from the community, it just shows how needed this Group is in Woodhouse. Keep up the great work.
